Over £4500 raised by St Teilo’s Charity Abseil day
Following the successful charity abseil in March, Friends of St Teilo’s are pleased to announce that the event raised over £4500 towards the Play for Life Project.
John Williams from Overhang (Tenby Climbing Wall) recently attended a special assembly to present certificates to the staff and pupils who scaled the 80ft high Great Keep at Pembroke Castle.
Said Friends Chairwoman, Hannah Arentz, ‘It’s a fantastic amount we’ve raised from this one event. Everyone had a fantastic day and with this money we can start thinking about the new play facilities that the money will go towards. We have to say a special thank you to all those pupils, staff and friends who were so brave in taking on the challenge, as well as all the volunteers on the day. We also have to thank John from Overhang who made sure all participants enjoyed the experience, Pembroke Castle for hosting the event and Sainsbury’s and Santander for their very generous contributions’.
Sports Day for the Early Years and Reception
Sports day for the Early Years and Reception was held last Tuesday (21st June) The children enjoyed taking part in all the races and had a great time. We would like to say a big thank you to all the judges and helpers who helped make the children’s sports day a success!
The children in Mrs Blake’s class enjoyed building dens in the school field and learnt about making shelters, they were joined by Mrs Moss who helped the children to make a fantastic den, well done to you all!
Maths on the Beach
The Children in Mrs Blake’s and Mrs Frearson’s classes took to the North Beach last week in order to enjoy some maths. They made good use of our local facilities and all the children enjoyed the maths activities! Thank you to all the helpers who came to supervise the children.
The whole school went to Scolton Manor on Wednesday 22nd June and took part in lots of different activities put on by Scolton Manor. The younger children enjoyed walking the woods hunting for trolls and loved the activities boxes which where put together for them. The older children enjoyed learning about habitats and took part in a hunt for different species of plants and animals and even took part in a nest building competition. A great day was had by all and a big thank you to everyone who came to help make the trip a successful one.
We’re very pleased to announce that not only has the school received a grant of £500 for the Wildlife Garden from Keep Wales Tidy and Tesco, but also a further £200 from the Natural Buzz campaign run by Keep Wales Tidy and funded by the Welsh Government.
As the pictures show the cash has been put to good use.
WE’RE HAVING A BUZZ FOR NATURE!
St Teilo’s Catholic Primary School has benefitted from free National Garden Gift vouchers thanks to the ‘Natural Buzz’ campaign run by environmental charity, Keep Wales Tidy, and funded by Welsh Government.
Children from St Teilo’s rolled up their sleeves and gave pollinators a helping hand when they found out they had been successful in applying for £200 which they used to buy seeds and plants .
The aim of the ‘Natural Buzz’ campaign is to raise awareness of the importance of pollinators, as well as to help communities create new habitats and food sources for pollinators by planting wild flower havens in unused spaces.
Keep Wales Tidy asked schools across Wales to apply for a ‘Natural Buzz’ grant of up to £250 to help them in their pollinator improvement projects.
Mrs Nicholls , Headteacher from St Teilo’s said,
“We were thrilled when we found out that we’d been successful in applying in for Garden Centre vouchers. Natural Buzz has enabled us to make a huge improvement to the pollen and nectar that’s on offer in our school grounds and hopefully this will benefit our local environment and wildlife, as well as the local community.”
Lesley Jones, Chief Executive of Keep Wales Tidy, said:
“I am delighted that so many schools across Wales got involved to help our pollinators and their natural environment. They have planted new flowering plants to attract our bees and butterflies as well as giving existing habitats a helping hand. Keep Wales Tidy would like to thank the Welsh Government for all their support, ensuring that the ‘Natural Buzz’ has been a great success for schools across Wales!”
ST TEILO’S CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL GETS CASH BOOST FOR ECO PROJECT
St Teilo’s has benefitted from a cash injection thanks to an environmental grant scheme from Keep Wales Tidy and Tesco.
Pupils and staff from St Teilo’s were thrilled to hear they’d been successful in applying for an All Wales Grant of £500 which they then used to create a wildlife garden .
Community groups, schools and charitable organisations across Wales were asked to apply to the All Wales Grant Scheme from November 2014, with grants of £100 – £500 available to help them with their very own green initiatives.
Run by environmental charity, Keep Wales Tidy and funded by Tesco’s single use carrier bag charge, the aim of the All Wales Grant Scheme is to assist communities across Wales in real environmental actions, both financially and practically, to help improve their local environment.
Mrs Nicholls, Headteacher from St Teilo’s said,
‘We are delighted with our new Wildlife Garden. Over the past few months the area has been transformed into a vibrant, colourful outdoor learning area . We are very grateful to all the parents and many Friends of the school who have helped us. The children have been actively involved and really enjoy working in and looking after their new outdoor area.’
Lesley Jones, Chief Executive of Keep Wales Tidy, said:
“I am delighted that so many groups and environmental projects across Wales have benefitted from a financial boost thanks to the All Wales Grants Scheme. It’s vital that we all do our bit to care for our local environment and through the scheme, local people across Wales have been able to get the support, resources and expert advice they need to carry out their environmental improvement projects.
Keep Wales Tidy would like to thank Tesco customers for their support with the single use carrier bag donation, resulting in a successful All Wales Grant Scheme. ”
The grant scheme was the first project to be launched thanks to a partnership between Keep Wales Tidy and Tesco, after 27,000 Tesco customers took part in a vote to choose Keep Wales Tidy as the charity to benefit from Tesco’s carrier bag charge in Wales from 1st October 2014.Follow TwitTeilos
