The sands of time are running out for the central star of this the Hourglass Nebula. With its nuclear fuel exhausted, this brief, spectacular, closing phase of a sun-like star's life occurs as its outer layers are ejected and its core becomes a cooling, fading white dwarf. In 1995, astronomers used the Hubble Space Telescope to make a series of images of planetary nebulae, including the one above. Here, delicate rings of colorful glowing gas (nitrogen-red, hydrogen-green, and oxygen-blue) outline the tenuous walls of the 'hourglass.' The unprecedented sharpness of Hubble's images revealed surprising details of the nebula ejection process and may resolve the outstanding mystery of the variety of complex shapes and symmetries of planetary nebulae. A huge thanks to all members of the Friends of St Teilo’s, but especially to those who have held office this year (Debbie Foley, Chair; Maria Zeraschi, Vice Chair; Sharon Ennis, Secretary; Shauna Rowell, Treasurer), and those who have offered their services in office for the coming year (Laura Tomp, Chair and Elenor Sevenoaks, Vice Chair; Secretary, Lou James). Good luck to them in this important role; the ‘Friends’ not only do a fabulous job in raising money to enhance the education of the children of St Teilo’s, but they also raise vital funds for other worthy charities, organise social events for children and parents alike, and unite the school in a spirit of family and friendship.
A timely ‘welcome home’ to Father Owen McGreal who returns to the parish after nine years. The school and whole parish would like to wish him well in his ‘new’ post and look forward to many years of direction, friendship and worship with him.

Bishop Mark Jabale of the Diocese of Menevia administered the Sacrament of Confirmation upon the pupils pictured below on Friday 20th June St Teilo’s Church. The occasion was a very happy one, which was celebrated by the whole parish, as well as visitors supporting the Confirmants. Special thanks are owed not only to Bishop Mark, but also to Mgr. Canon Kinrade VG, catechists Yolande Servini, Maria Zeraschi and Angela Nicholls, and Camarthen Retreat organisers Sister Mary Trinity, and Father Morthy among others, of St Mary’s Church Carmarthen.
